i5k Rejections

It's spring time and we thought we should dig up and air out some designs that never got to see the light of day for this year's i5k.

Five years of iFiveK

Team SLANT, 2011The 2011 iFivek was cancelled - but the pizza and beer consumption wasn't! Despite the hail, torrential downpour and soggy-shoe guarantee, there were clear skies on the horizon - we were all ready to run the fifth-annual iFiveK last Thursday, April 21.

But it each time the worst of the weather seemed to be behind us, the rain returned and ultimately the race route, rife with puddles, was unsafe for the crowd of 750 to navigate.

So we did the only logical thing. We huddled inside the Maritime Center and kicked off the after party (sponsored by BoomTown - THANKS guys!)

SLANT has been the race's Creative Sponsor since the first iFiveK and we were thrilled to experience the first sold-out year. From a creative perspective, our biggest overhaul was the new website, then there were new shirts (gotta keep it fresh), updated signage (that saw a lot of rain but no runners) and new photography (you remember Will's death defying escapade, right?).

Great job to Ernest, Amy, Amanda, the Charleston Digital Corridor team and the rest of the sponsors for making it a success. Fingers crossed for clear skies in 2012!

Ready to run. Yeah, turns out we've got some hardcore runners in the group. The calm after the storm (brought to you by BoomTown's beer and CHS's beauty)Double rainbow... all the way! (What does it MEAN?)

The 2011 i5k photoshoot, poster vote, and death-defying stunts

When SLANT branded the i5k (short for the Innovator's 5K Run/Walk/Shuffle) for the Charleston Digital Corridor five years ago, we also created a signature style for the i5k's brand photography so each annual event's shots would retain a consistent look.

This year we narrowed the dusk shots from our early November shoot to five and had the i5k twitter and facebook communities vote on their favorite for use on the i5k poster. The winning photo, shown below, made us glad because it has a good story.

iFive:K - We'll run if you bribe us with beer.

Last night, Team SLANT dusted off our running shoes and got some exercise.

Why would we do that, you ask? It was the Charleston Digital Corridor's fourth annual iFive:K, a scenic 6:30pm race from the Charleston Maritime Center to White Point Gardens at the Battery and back again. Followed by pizza, beer and a gorgeous sunset.

SLANT has been a lead sponsor and the creative sponsor of the event from the beginning. We worked with the Charleston Digital Corridor to create the identity of the race, including the event's name, logo, shirts, bib tags, mile markers and finish line signs.

Team SLANT represented the range of possible iFive:K paces: run, walk and shuffle. Our best time was Megan DeCamilla's 27:48. Just think what she could have done on rollerskates (she's on the Lowcountry Highrollers Roller Derby team)!

A link to the REST of our results, you ask? Uh... we lost them.

But we do have fotos. Enjoy!

It's iFive:K time!

When: April 22, 2010 at 6:30p Where: Charleston Maritime Center

Who says SLANT isn't health conscious?

For the 4th year in a row, we are proud to be a lead sponsor for the Innovator's 5K run, also known as the i5k.  Heck – this year we may even try to complete the course!  After all, it is "run•walk•shuffle"...

From the recent press release:

The Charleston Digital Corridor will host its fourth annual iFive:k on April 22, 2010 at 6:30pm.  This year’s event will continue offering runners, walkers and shufflers the popular scenic race route, custom race t-shirts, cool prizes, team opportunities to vie for the coveted “Bragging Rights Trophy” and the much anticipated after-party at the Charleston Maritime Center on the harbor.

Besides the fact that this is always a good time, it also has a good cause.  A portion of the proceeds raised are donated to the Burke Scholarship Fund, specifically to benefit a student seeking higher education in a technology related field.

Registration is open now — click here to sign up online.  And if you see one of us lying face down in the middle of the road during the race, please try not to step on us....
