When SLANT client LoopPay, Inc. was acquired by consumer electronics giant Samsung, we were excited. But when we were asked to stay onboard and provide UX and UI insights for their upcoming SamsungPay service to be used on their flagship Galaxy phones, we got really excited. Our role was to help develop user experience (UX) concepts and make user interface (UI) design recommendations for new features. The result was hundreds of hours of strategic wireframe and UI design exercises and documentation for the Samsung development team.

Philips: Dead Battery Anxiety

Don’t panic, but you probably have Dead Battery Anxiety.  At least that was the idea behind the integrated campaign we developed for Philips to promote their ChargeOn line of wire-free chargers. The creative concept was a mock affliction we dubbed “Dead Battery Anxiety” (or DBA, for short) that centered around mobile phone users’ extreme fear of having their batteries die at inopportune times. Online videos, short stories and a sweepstakes engaged users and provided ChargeOn chargers as a ‘treatment and cure’ for DBA.

From a CAD drawing to the shelves of Restoration Hardware: that’s the gist of the Kebo’s success. Architect and product-designer Rush Dixon came to SLANT with his idea for an elegant but quirky one-handed bottle opener. We named it the Kebo, short for bottle key. We then designed the brand, packaging and collateral materials. The product and its brand have been a huge success, being featured on the Today Show; sold in retail outlets nation-wide including Restoration Hardware and MoMA; and even winning a National ADDY® award for logo design by the American Advertising Federation.

Our solution was a complete rethinking of the organization’s name and message: The Spartanburg Academic Movement. The supporting brand, visual identity, website, and advertising campaigns enabled them to garner attention, helping them spread their message of academic achievement.

String Advantage engineers developed a new performance accessory that attaches to the string bed of nearly any tennis racquet improving ball control and spin for top notch players. There was just one problem: they had no idea what to call it. Our solution was Pojie – a play on the very essence of what String Advantage sought to do: help players perform at the apogee of their game. We then crafted a logo and extensive visual identity for the Pojie brand from packaging to sales materials and website. Now if we could just figure out how to improve our backhand…

Wildly successful and praised by tech sites like Gizmodo.com, BatterySense had nearly half a million downloads and was Philips' most downloaded iOS app before the product line was retired.

A product this cool needed an equally impressive brand and app experience. With that, iCache commissioned us to develop nearly every aspect of the product’s brand from the logo to packaging to the iPhone app, website, advertising and promotional videos.

We were tasked with designing and developing an iOS app that would educate consumers on the ActionFit line of headphones in a meaningful and relevant way. Our solution was the ActionFit app. The app tracks fitness routines and makes recommendations on which ActionFit headphones are best suited for exercise routines.

Restauranteur Greg Bauer had a vision for authentic Vietnamese food in a casual, chic atmosphere in the heart of downtown Charleston, SC. He named his creation “CO” – vietnamese for feast – and tasked SLANT with developing its brand. Our solution was a brandmark inspired by the curves of the vietnamese rice fields, the noodles found  in their signature dishes and the sensual eyelashes of the exotic beauties of mid-century Vietnamese pop culture. The logo’s shapes and bold color even inspired the interior décor of the space itself. We then designed the accompanying menus, apparel, labels and a website that embraces responsive design for easy mobile viewing of menus and contact information.

Entrepreneur JP Hudson had us at “exclusive sneakers” when describing his idea for “Sneaker” – Charleston, SC’s only destination for exclusive sneakers and apparel. SLANT was commissioned to establish a brand for Sneaker that was as sexy and unique as the products they would sell. Our solution was a fresh brandmark with custom typography in a bright red. We infused the brand’s sexiness into all aspects of the retail environment from signage to shopping bags.
